Norm Boucher was elected as Mayor for the City of Medicine Hat on October 15, 2007. He was then re-elected for his second term on October 18, 2010.
Norm grew up in Quebec, in a family of 14 children. Norm joined the RCMP at age 19, where he served for 30 years and retired as a Superintendent. His assignments covered five provinces and leadership roles in two United Nations Missions in Croatia in 1995 and Kosovo in 2001.
Upon his retirement from the RCMP, Norm took on the position of Chief of Police for the Medicine Hat Police Service. He fulfilled this function until September 14, 2007. Norm holds six police decorations, acquired during his Police Service.
Norm was always active in the communities where he lived, as a hockey, baseball and soccer coach, mentor and volunteer. In the six and a half years as Chief of Police in Medicine Hat, he contributed to more than 15 local charities and took leadership roles in creating the local Youth Justice Committee and the Centre for Advancement in Community Justice.
During his many relocations, Norm studied at five different universities and holds an Executive MBA from Queens. He is fluent in French and English and conversant in Croat and Spanish.
Mayor Boucher is married to Sanja and they have two sons, Nicholas and Daniel. Nicholas is a School Teacher in New Brunswick and Daniel is a paramedic living in Toronto with his wife Jodi, who is a lawyer.
