OVERVIEW:

The project involves the replacement or repair of water, storm, sanitary, and surface (i.e. roads and sidewalks) infrastructure on Primrose Drive, and connected cul-de-sacs. The roads within the subdivision are at the end of their service life and require restoration. There has also been significant deterioration of the water, sanitary, and storm infrastructure due to the challenging soil conditions and abundance of ground water in the area.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Major work items include:

  • 24,000m2 of asphalt roadway (remove and replace)
  • 910m of 100mm tile drain to be installed in various green space
  • 1,200m of 150mm PVC water pipe
  • 650m of 200mm PVC water pipe
  • 9 fire hydrants (remove and replace existing)
  • 21 water & sewer service spot repairs on Primrose Drive SE
  • 145 water & sewer service connections
  • 1,750m of 200mm PVC sanitary sewer pipe
  • 200m of 300mm PVC storm sewer pipe
  • 100m of 450 PVC storm sewer pipe
  • 41 sewer manholes (remove and replace exiting)
  • 9 catch basins (remove and replace)
  • 950m of monolithic sidewalk (remove and replace)
  • 150m of curb and gutter (remove and replace)

SCHEDULE:

The estimated start and completion dates are as follows:

  • Estimated start: February of 2012
  • Estimated underground infrastructure completion: Summer 2013 (weather depending)
  • Estimated surface infrastructure completion: Summer 2014 (weather depending)
    The final surface of paving is to be installed 1 full freeze-thaw cycle (November to April) after the installation of any underground utility to rectify any settlements in the road due to the challenging soil conditions and groundwater found in this area.

TRAFFIC PLANS:

Access to Primrose Drive SE off College Drive SE will be open at all times. Vehicle traffic will be maintained throughout construction however, specific work zones will be identified through signage and residential notifications. Residents will have to alter their regular route of travel dependent on the location of the active construction zone. For the areas directly affected by construction, 2 separate parking lots will be constructed near the east intersection of College Drive SE and Primrose Drive SE. The contractor will provide a free shuttle service including 2 vehicles (4 passenger golf carts) that will transport people from the parking lots to their destination between the hours of 6 am to 10 pm.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Access to on-street parking will be unavailable in specific areas of construction depending on the active construction work zone
  • Disruptions to on-street parking will be kept to a minimum where possible
  • Water and sewer service will be maintained during construction with the exception of localized tie-ins and any unforeseen issues
  • Affected residents will receive prior notification of all planned service interruptions
  • Planned service interruptions will be kept to a short duration and will be scheduled in advance where possible
  • Construction personnel will be located at the east and west entrance of Primrose Drive SE during working hours to help direct people to their destination
  • Digital signs containing construction information will be displayed at the east and west entrance of Primrose Drive SE at all times to help direct people to their destination
